Appellation:  Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley

Varietals: 100% Chardonnay, See’s clone

Fermentation:  malolactic fermentation

Aging: 10 months in 50% new French oak and 50% used French oak

Winemaker: Gustavo A. Gonzalez

Alcohol: 14.8%


 Winemaking - “Gone Wild” refers to the risky, but rewarding, approach of allowing nature to take its course starting the fermentation, rather than intervening by adding cultured wine yeast. Numerous strains of wild yeast are present in the winery and ride in from the vineyard on the freshly-picked grapes. Relying on them to convert the juice to wine means a slow, somewhat unpredictable fermentation, but each strain contributes its own unique, subtle nuances and, collectively, the various species lend the wine added layers of flavor, dimension and complexity.

 Tasting – Close your eyes and let your nose pick up on the caramel, toffee brioche and honey almonds touched by a rich, aromatic oak.  A creamy, plush mouthfeel complemented by soft citrus, bright grapefruit, fresh lemon peel, and a smooth, lingering finish.

Had this in Florida. Picked up on rec from guy running Wine World next to Craft bar on Panama City Beach. One of the best chardonnays I've had this year. Reminded me of an older Pinot Blanc that was made by Freemark Abbey years ago. I would agree with your creamy description and maybe hints of toffee and or caramel. I like the weight of it, the viscosity, full in the mouth with enough fruit and oak. I don't like the trend of acidity that seems to be pervading California Chards. You have the sunshine and the fruit so use it. Thanks for making this wine.

Just had a bottle of the 2013 vintage. This is a terrific full bodied well balanced Chardonnay, bought my bottle at Total Wine In Naples FL, brought it back to Europe where it 'rested' for a few weeks, and it was outstanding. Complex, oakey and very smooth. Delicious and better than many I have tried in the same price range. Highly recommended. Thank you

Bought this bottle at Total Wine in Inland Empire, CA. Loved the smooth finish. A great bottle of wine.
