This lush, mouth-filling Chardonnay grows just south of our estate at the Red Hen Vineyard. The small-berried Sees clone was matched with the well-drained alluvial soil and mild conditions to yield a wine that’s full-bodied in structure but also nuanced in texture and flavor.
Hand harvested, the whole clusters were slowly and gently pressed over a period of hours to extract Chardonnay’s signature bright, fruity and floral character without a hint of bitterness. Following a long, cool fermentation with weekly stirring, the wine was aged on the yeast lees, adding to complexity and creating a smooth, creamy texture to complement the long, citrusy finish.
The bright, fresh aroma of Asian pear, tropical melon, honeysuckle and clove is nicely framed by vanilla and lemon zest. On the palate rich, creamy layers of honeydew melon, caramel, Asian pear and fresh tangerine linger, finishing with Meyer lemon and spice.
